How to set the default application to open a file type

To set default applications on a Mac, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the “Finder” application on your Mac.
  2. Locate a file with the file type that you want to change the default application for.

  3. Right-click on the file and select “Get Info” from the context menu.
  4. In the “Get Info” window, locate the “Open with” section.
  5. Click on the dropdown menu next to the current default application.
  6. Select the desired application from the list or click on “Other” to choose a different application.
  7. If you selected “Other”, navigate to the desired application and click “Open”.
  8. To apply the changes to all files with the same file type, click on the “Change All…” button.
  9. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click on “Continue” to proceed.
  10. Close the “Get Info” window.

After following these steps, the selected application will be set as the default for opening files with the specified file type on your Mac.
